Route 0 West Loop (route number 0769) is a Magong city circular bus operated by the Penghu County Public Vehicles and Ships Administration. Departing from Magong Main Station, it loops via Xiwei, Chongguang, National Penghu University of Science and Technology (NPU), Linsen Road, the County Government, Penghu Hospital, and Magong Commercial Port before returning to Magong Main Station. The route connects schools (Magong Elementary School, Chung-Hsing Elementary School, NPU), government offices (the County Government, Reserve Command), and medical facilities (Penghu Hospital, Penghu Hospital ER), and mainly serves local residents commuting to school, work, or medical appointments. It is rarely used by tourists.
Route Overview
Route 0 is split into a “West Loop” and an “East Loop” running in opposite directions around the city; this page covers the West Loop (number 0769, marked “零路［西］” on the bus). The entire route stays within Magong city and does not leave the urban area. Its defining feature is that one fare lets you ride a full city loop, making it especially useful for commuters moving between the Xiwei residential area, the NPU campus, and downtown government offices. One thing to note: the Penghu Hospital ER stop is not served all day — only weekday runs before noon detour into it, while weekday afternoon and weekend services skip the stop entirely. For the main entrance of Penghu Hospital, use the “Penghu Hospital” stop instead.
When to Ride
Route 0 West Loop runs very infrequently, with only two departures currently scheduled from Magong Main Station — 07:40 and 08:30 — designed around early-morning commuting, school runs, and visits to government offices. After 9 AM there are no further services for the day. If you are heading to Penghu Hospital or the County Government, the first bus at 07:40 offers the most flexibility; NPU students and staff will find the 08:30 run closest to class time. From November through March, the northeast monsoon brings strong winds, which are especially noticeable around Xiwei and Chongguang, so shelter on the leeward side of the stop sign and dress warmly while waiting. There is no service on weekends or in the afternoon — take a taxi or rent a scooter instead.
