Qianliao Line 0764 (City Bus Route 12) | Magong → Qianliao → Magong

The Qianliao Line (TDX RouteID 0764, shown as “Route 12” on stop signs) is operated by the Penghu County Public Bus and Ferry Management Office. It is a loop city bus that begins and ends at Magong Station and circles the southwestern half of downtown Magong. The line has 35 stops. The outbound leg passes Huimin Hospital, Beichen Market, Magong Precinct, the Martyrs’ Shrine, the Agriculture and Fisheries Bureau, Wen’ao Market, Open University, the Chiang Ching-kuo Memorial Hall, Anshan Children’s Park, Anshan Beiji Temple, and Wai-dong Gate, before reaching Tri-Service General Hospital Penghu Branch (with outer and inner stops). From there it heads south to Qianliao (west and east stops), Shiquan Inner, and Caiyuan (outer and inner, where it turns around), then returns via Shiquan Lower and Shiquan Upper back to Wen’ao Market and Beichen Market. Finally it passes the County Government, the Reserve Command, Zhongzheng Road, Penghu Hospital Emergency Room, Penghu Hospital, and Magong Commercial Port before arriving back at Magong Station.

Fares are zone-based: full fare NT$19, concession NT$10 (source: TDX 2026, version 6824). The line mainly serves local residents traveling to hospitals or commuting within southwestern Magong, along with visitors who want to avoid downtown crowds and see the traditional coral-stone settlements of Qianliao and Caiyuan.

Route Highlight: Three Major Medical Stops on One Bus

The defining feature of the Qianliao Line is that a single bus covers three major medical stops. The outbound leg calls at “Tri-Service Penghu Branch (Outer)” and “Tri-Service Penghu Branch (Inner)” consecutively, while the return leg passes “Penghu Hospital Emergency Room” and “Penghu Hospital.” This is especially useful for local residents accompanying elderly relatives to follow-up visits or visiting hospitalized family members. Combined with return-leg stops at the County Government, Reserve Command, Zhongzheng Road, and Magong Commercial Port, a single route addresses four categories of needs at once: government offices, hospitals, the port area, and the southwestern settlements.

Along the Route: Coral-Stone Settlements and Intertidal Zones in Qianliao and Caiyuan

Qianliao, Caiyuan, and Shiquan all lie along the southwestern coast of Magong and still contain a number of traditional houses built from coral stone (basalt and fossilized coral) — a good place to see Penghu’s older settlement patterns up close, with far fewer visitors than downtown landmarks such as Guanyinting, Tianhou Temple, and Zhongyang Old Street. At low tide, the waters around Qianliao reveal traces of intertidal fishing, while Caiyuan Village is known for its inner-bay oyster farming.

When to Ride

With only 5 departures a day, all concentrated between morning and mid-afternoon (earliest 7:35 AM, latest 3:50 PM), check the schedule before heading out. Gaps between services are uneven: 07:35 → 09:45 (2 h 10 min gap) → 10:45 (1 h) → 12:10 (1 h 25 min) → 15:50 (3 h 40 min). If you miss the 12:10 PM service, the next one isn’t until 3:50 PM — nearly a 4-hour wait, and an easy mistake to make.

Suggested travel windows:

• 07:35 AM (service 12): Good for early appointments at Tri-Service Penghu Branch, and the first commuter service to the County Government and Reserve Command.
• 09:45 / 10:45 AM (12A, 12B): Useful for a trip from downtown to Qianliao or Caiyuan to photograph coral-stone alleys and intertidal zones, with time to return for lunch.
• 12:10 PM (12C): If you miss this one, the next service isn’t until 3:50 PM, so treat it as your fallback return.

Note: The Penghu Hospital Emergency Room Stop Is Skipped After Noon on Weekdays

Stop 32, “Penghu Hospital Emergency Room,” is officially listed as “Penghu Hospital Emergency Room (skipped after 12:00 on weekdays and on public holidays).” As a result, the 12:10 PM (12C) and 3:50 PM (12D) return services skip this stop, which is why TDX data shows these two trips ending at stop 31. To reach the Penghu Hospital emergency room, take the 07:35 AM, 09:45 AM, or 10:45 AM service, or walk from the Zhongzheng Road stop — Penghu Hospital is only about 150 m away.

Winter Travel Tip

From October through March, the northeast monsoon makes the coastal stretches at Qianliao and Caiyuan feel noticeably cold in the afternoon, and the southwest side of Magong has few tall buildings to block the wind. Morning services are preferable in winter; for the return leg, aim for a departure no later than 12:10 PM to avoid long waits in exposed areas. During peak season (May–September) this is less of a concern, but watch for afternoon thunderstorms.
